What can be done to rehabilitate a six-year-old war veteran?
Jarrett-Macauley’s first novel is set in post-civil war Sierra
Leone, and takes a courageous look at what happens to child soldiers
after the conflict has finished. Citizen is the six-year-old who
became the instrument of his own grandmother’s death, while
Moses is the husband of the murdered woman. A complicated novel
that mixes conventional narrative with West African storytelling
and keeps the reader guessing to the end.
